Business Management Coaching
I’ve been a business owner since the 70’s. Over the 15+ years that I’ve been doing business management coaching, I’ve run across hundreds of professionals who went out on their own because they wanted to make money for themselves, rather than a boss. And for the most part, I have agreed with their decision.
But what many professionals do not taken into consideration, is that running a successful business requires much more than just having professional expertise in your given field. If it stops there, all you are doing is “freelancing” or “practicing” not running a business. And although you may be creating a job for yourself, you’re not investing in your future.
Running a business is far more comprehensive. Businesses have a vision for the future and a plan which determines exactly how to get there. Within that plan they have specific goals, with strategies and tactics in place to make those goals a reality. Business owners do not just focus on the current project or case, but on the big picture of where their companies are going and how to take them there. They don’t forget to do marketing until they run out of work, they work consistently to develop future business and the referral relationships that will bring new clients.
Businesses keep good financial records and use that information to make informed decisions. They develop systems, processes and procedures to insure that they are not re-inventing the wheel at every turn. They cultivate client and employee relationships that help them to flourish. Successful business owners overcome habits and behaviors that keep them from being successful. And they develop the leadership and management skills so that they are best equipped to make it all happen.
